Cheltenham Fashion Week

Every year Cheltenham has Fashion Week where there are lots of events, workshops etc. One of the events is the student show. The older school kids majoring in fashion have a student show and compete for scholarship money. The primary schools are invited to enter a junior competition making clothes from reclaimed materials (rubbish). Glenfall won last year and received a 1000 pound prize for the school. They entered this year as well and won again but there was no prize money this year. Too bad. However, the kids had a great time making them and those who modeled felt famous and special being in a fashion show, having lots of photos taken, interviewed by the BBC radio, in the paper and they met George Davies founder of Next and the George line that WalMart has. He lives in our area. They got a nice trophy to put in the school. I had fun helping the kids bring their designs to life. They had good ideas, just needed help figuring out how to make it.

The kids like Avery's ball caps he wears
and wanted to make some.

Avery's pal Charlie made a big cape from
grocery store bags. The gold on his
hat and cuffs is cut from Avery's
birthday balloon.

Josh was the most determined of the class. He had drawn a design
of a suit and was determined to make it. If we had more time
he would have kept coming up with even more ways to improve it.

Emre looks so cute and a bit homeless or like a paper scarecrow. lol
Mr. Whyte helped him cover old trousers and an old waistcoat
with newspaper.

Betty was a cute little diva.
She and the other girls worked hard
making a skirt and bows from potato
crisp bags, a hat from a pizza box and duct tape,
a shirt from a shop bag, and a belt from a balloon.
